Kathryn Rodrigues Examines Transient Upbringing and Domesticity in 'Homesick' at Perspective Gallery

On display at Perspective Gallery in Evanston, Illinois, Kathryn Rodrigues's solo exhibition 'Homesick' runs until June 28. This collection of black-and-white analog self-portraits delves into the dichotomy of her nomadic upbringing as a military child and her present-day experience as a parent in a Chicago suburb. Utilizing her own body as a means to navigate and challenge the physical and ideological confines of her home and yard, Rodrigues's work is both personal and profound. Accompanying the exhibition is an artist's book featuring silhouettes of the twenty residences she has inhabited, along with a drawing illustrating her childhood journey. Rodrigues holds a BFA from the University of Illinois and an MS from Massachusetts College of Art; she was a finalist in the 2023 Photolucida Critical Mass and will participate in the 2024 Review Santa Fe. The exhibition was curated by Susan Isaacson, a photographic artist associated with Perspective Gallery.
