Kateryna Husieva: Memory, Meaning, and the Art of Noticing
Ukrainian artist Kateryna Husieva, based in Ukraine, has developed a practice centered on the fluidity of memory and the preservation of overlooked everyday moments. After studying at the A. Osmerkhin School of Art and the Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University, she became a lecturer at the latter, also contributing to national projects like "Unite Ukraine with Art" and illustrating for newspapers Babushka and Stricha. In 2016, she left teaching to focus on her personal practice and founded Euphoria, a creative art space for children and adults. Her work, such as "Ungifted Mimosas," responds to the war in Ukraine, reflecting on the fragility of daily rituals. "Metamorphosis" explores transformation through sunflowers, emphasizing that change is not loss. Husieva employs mixed techniques—oils, acrylics, pastels, and watercolor approaches—to create layered, incomplete surfaces that invite viewer participation. Currently experimenting with smaller-scale works, she plans to integrate these discoveries into larger canvases. Her philosophy: "I paint what inspires me. I paint the way I feel it."
