Kart Group Fuses Emirati Craft with Workplace Design at Al Maktoum Archives in Dubai
The Al Maktoum Archives interior, spanning 8,000 square feet, has been finalized by Kart Group under the leadership of Mustafa Khamash, in partnership with contractor EMKAY, at Dubai's Emirates Towers. The design merges modern office aesthetics with traditional Emirati craftsmanship, featuring a central seating area inspired by the majlis and incorporating Mashrabiya patterns from the Al Shindagha Museum. Enhancements include a custom hand-tufted carpet made from New Zealand wool and woven palm fronds, while CNC-cut marble on the feature wall highlights heritage geometry. The decor is complemented by contemporary textiles from Romo, Dedar, and Kirkby Design, alongside an AJZAL Burj Rashid coffee table and Herman Miller Aeron chairs. This archive is dedicated to preserving the Maktoum family's historical records and cultural narratives. Photography by Sebastian Böttcher; edited by Christina Vergopoulou for designboom.
