Karimah Ashadu's 'Tendered' Debuts at Renaissance Society
From September 12 to November 1, 2026, the Renaissance Society in Chicago will showcase 'Karimah Ashadu: Tendered.' This solo exhibition features the U.S. premiere of 'MUSCLE,' a new moving-image installation that has been co-commissioned and co-produced by the Renaissance Society alongside Fondazione In Between Art Film. Ashadu's work examines how bodies are perceived within modern labor and value systems, especially relating to Nigeria and its diaspora. Through her film and installation work, she engages deeply with individuals navigating informal economies, investigating how they manage their aspirations amid material limitations.
