K Schubeck Releases Video on Dick Proenneke's Cabin

K Schubeck, the spouse of Monroe Robinson, has produced a brief YouTube video chronicling their experiences at Dick Proenneke's cabin in Alaska. Proenneke spent 31 years living there alone, constructing his cabin and crafting many survival tools, which were highlighted in the PBS series 'Alone in the Wilderness.' Following Dick's departure, Monroe and K dedicated 19 summers to maintaining the cabin and conducting tours. The video features both cabin footage and new images not included in Monroe's book, 'The Handcrafted Life of Dick Proenneke,' which showcases numerous journal entries with Monroe's insights. One entry from August 2, 1979, recounts a hike to 'my peak' near Hope Creek, identified as Proenneke Peak. In 2001, Monroe witnessed a gyrfalcon guiding a golden eagle from the ridge. Dick's ashes were interred near a spotted saxifrage on Proenneke Peak in 2003, during 'Dick's Last Hike,' attended by Monroe, K, and park service staff, including historian John Branson. In 2016, Monroe and K, along with friends, took Raymond's ashes to the same location. The video can be found on YouTube.
