June Crespo’s 'MÁS GRAVES' at Kunsthalle Lissabon

Kunsthalle Lissabon presents 'MÁS GRAVES', a solo exhibition by Spanish artist June Crespo (b. 1982, Pamplona). The title plays on the dual meanings of gravity and low-frequency sound, merging material density with acoustic resonance. For this project, Crespo created a large-scale sculpture that engages the basement architecture of the gallery, using industrial materials like ventilation ducts and tarpaulins from heavy transport vehicles. The 12-meter-long main wall becomes an active surface for support and friction. A sound piece by Estanis Comella, developed in collaboration with Crespo, adds an acoustic layer: a recording made inside a pipe traversing Crespo’s studio building from rooftop to basement. The sound emanates from the opposite wall, confronting the sculpture and activating hidden spaces. Crespo’s practice investigates the body, matter, and architectural space, often exploring tensions of scale and weight. She has exhibited internationally at institutions such as Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin), Secession (Vienna), Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Le Crédac (Paris), and CA2M (Madrid). In 2022, she participated in the 59th Venice Biennale’s central exhibition 'The Milk of Dreams'. Estanis Comella (b. 1985, Lleida) combines music, image, and performance, and has collaborated with venues including Fundació Miró, Tabakalera, and MNCARS.
