Jun Martínez: London-Based Puerto Rican Painter on Memory, Landscape, and Frieze London
In 1992, Jun Martínez was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, and has spent the last three years in London. Earlier this year, he unveiled his inaugural solo exhibition, "At the centre there is a stillness," with Cecilia Brunson Projects, showcasing paintings that express his connection to Puerto Rico's landscape. Martínez is set to exhibit a pentaptych titled "Sobre tierras alteradas y pastizales abandonados (Roble Blanco del Caribe) I-III" at Frieze London, running from 14 to 18 October 2026. Additionally, he is collaborating with curator Sarah Hermann on a project in the Dominican Republic. His artistic exploration delves into the relationship between beauty and violence in natural settings, drawing on scientific research of Caribbean flora. A publication, "Jun Martínez: Pinturas 2014-2024," is also highlighted.
