Juan Tamariz, Master of Card Magic, Dies at 82

On October 18, 2023, the renowned Spanish magician Juan Manuel Tamariz-Martel Negrón passed away. He was born in Madrid on October 18, 1942, and began practicing magic at the tender age of four. By 18, he became a member of the Spanish Society of Illusionism. Before dedicating himself entirely to magic, he pursued studies in physics and film. In 1971, he co-authored the Manifesto of the Madrid Magic School and claimed the World Championship of Card Magic at the FISM World Congress in Paris in 1973. Tamariz rose to prominence through television and introduced the 'theory of false solutions,' impacting many in the field. He received honorary distinctions in Beijing (2009) and Las Vegas (2011), authored several books, and established the Frakson publishing house, leaving a lasting legacy that made Spain a center for close-up magic.
