Joyce Lin encases antique furniture in blue acrylic for "For Now We See Through a Glass Darkly"
In 2019, Joyce Lin, an artist based in Houston, partnered with Emeric Tchatchoua, the founder of 3.PARADIS, to present "For Now We See Through a Glass Darkly" at Sabine Street Studios. This exhibition featured furniture enveloped in translucent blue acrylic, altering how viewers perceive chairs, tables, and lamps, rendering them visible yet non-functional. Lin's artistic exploration delves into the interplay between surface and structure, merging craftsmanship with innovative experimentation. She holds a degree in Furniture Design from the Rhode Island School of Design and studied Geology-Biology at Brown University. Her notable works include Kudzu, Ghostwood, Exploded Chair, Negative Chair, and Fused Chair, where she redefines familiar objects through dissection and reconstruction, challenging conventional design and functionality.
