Jota Mombaça's Opera Series Debuts at Kunsthalle Bern

exhibition · 2026-07-18

This summer, Kunsthalle Bern presents the inaugural chapter of Jota Mombaça's new opera series, 'compost (continuum)'. The series consists of four chapters that are not arranged chronologically, created in partnership with the Sonsbeek Biennial 2026 in Arnhem, Netherlands, Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai, China, and Inhotim Museum in Brumadinho, Brazil. Mombaça's collaborators include Lido Pimienta, Pedro Santiago, along with a diverse group of musicians, activists, and scholars. This work delves into themes of climate disaster and human anxiety, utilizing elemental theory and the concept of 'geontology' as articulated by Elizabeth Povinelli.
