José Roca to Curate 2027 Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts

In 2027, José Roca, who refers to graphic art as the 'unconscious of contemporary art', will take on the role of curator for the 37th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts. This biennial, one of the oldest globally, was founded in 1955 in Slovenia. Roca's previous roles include serving as the artistic director for the 2022 Biennale of Sydney and chief curator for the 2011 Bienal do Mercosul in Porto Alegre. He also co-curated the inaugural San Juan Poly/Graphic Triennial in 2004 and the Bienal de São Paulo in 2006. In 2025, he advised curatorial efforts for the first Bogotá International Biennial of Art and the City, where he co-managed FLORA ars+natura for a decade. Roca aims to explore print as a medium that encompasses material culture, design, and scientific artefacts, alongside new commissions from the MGLC residency programme and print workshop.
