Jordan Wolfson and Deana Lawson Open Side-by-Side Shows at Gagosian Chelsea

exhibition · 2026-10-18

Two solo presentations run concurrently at Gagosian's West 24th Street galleries in Chelsea, New York, through October 24, 2026. Deana Lawson opens first, on September 10, at 541 West 24th Street, in her inaugural solo exhibition with the gallery; Jordan Wolfson's show, his first New York outing with Gagosian, begins September 18 at 555 West 24th Street. Wolfson debuts a group of wall sculptures sharing a single uniform scale, built on polished aluminum supports into which color and black-and-white photographs are set. The images, drawn from the internet and from personal archives, touch on online subcultures, consumer iconography and human feeling; the reflective metal surfaces respond to gallery lighting and to visitors moving through the space. Lawson, a Hugo Boss Prize winner, widens her photographic practice into holograms and compositions held in glowing black mirror frames. She unveils selections from Edge Control, a series built around blue-green surveillance stills taken in beauty supply stores and named for the hair product used to smooth hairlines, recasting commercial security footage as an inquiry into looking, race and personhood. Custom black mirrors and holographic projections surround her staged portraits and surveillance imagery. Both shows are free, open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
