Jonathan Corral Arquitectos transforms Aguascalientes winery into subterranean Cafetería Hundida

The 88th issue of Glocal Design Magazine delves into sustainable architecture, showcasing various projects and interviews that highlight themes of climate, territory, materials, and social responsibility. In Aguascalientes, the Cafetería Hundida project reimagines a former winery at UD Campus Aguascalientes into an immersive sensory environment. Jonathan Corral Arquitectos retains the essence of the original building, incorporating concrete cylinders as livable areas with openings for light and ventilation. The design prioritizes a central circulation axis, with secondary spaces like libraries branching off. Original mosaics are either restored or creatively reinterpreted using custom ceramics. Additionally, an old ford is transformed into an outdoor plaza, featuring ramps and stairways that subtly shift light and temperature, honoring industrial heritage while embracing modern design.
