John M Armleder's 'Le fantôme de la chance' at Kunsthaus Biel

John M Armleder's exhibition 'Le fantôme de la chance' at Kunsthaus Biel Centre d’art Bienne (KBCB) brings together two pivotal moments from his career: the 2004 'About Nothing' show at Kunsthalle Zürich and the 2006 retrospective 'Amor vacui, horror vacui' at MAMCO Geneva. The exhibition features a substantial collection of drawings displayed across rooms redecorated by the artist, along with paintings, sculptures, and installations, some created specifically for the occasion. Armleder, born in 1948, has spent six decades defying categorization, with roots in performance art and Fluxus, and is a leading figure in the Neo Geo movement. The show includes a corridor with blue polyester film, displaying posters from his 1981 solo exhibition at Kunstmuseum Basel, and lithographs titled 'Never' (2008). A room features wallpaper with motifs inspired by Lina Bo Bardi, Ernst Haeckel, and polka dots, while another room presents drawings dating back to 1963. The exhibition also includes 'Quelques objets volants' (1967–1975), a series of boxes, and a mural echoing John Cage's influence. The Galeries section includes red carpet rolls from a 1999 Maurizio Cattelan exhibition, and sculptures like 'Saint-Antoine' (1968/2006), reflecting Armleder's Fluxus principles. The show runs until September 6, 2026.
