John Lennon's Rediscovered Drawings for First Music Video Unveiled in Liverpool

For the first time, approximately 240 sketches by John Lennon, created in the 1960s for an animated Beatles music video, have been unveiled at the Liverpool Beatles Museum. These illustrations, produced in partnership with artist Stephen Verona, incorporate lyrics from the Beatles' 1964 song "I Feel Fine." When arranged together, they create a two-minute lyric video titled "She Said So," recognized as the first music video. Recently, these artworks emerged at a London auction, where pop culture expert Joseph Robert O'Donnell acknowledged their importance. Currently, they are part of a three-month temporary exhibition. The collaboration started when Lennon and Verona met at a London club, doodling on a tablecloth, which led to the creation of a film that garnered several awards, including the CINE Golden Eagle. The Library of Congress houses the original film reel, while Verona kept the drawings. In 2000, the complete set was sold at Christie's New York for $58,750. The exhibition features iconic sequences, including "baby says she's mine" and "in love with her."
