Joe Henry Baker's 'Inversion' Series Debuts at Montauk Yacht Club

Brooklyn-based artist Joe Henry Baker presented his 'Inversion' series at Montauk Yacht Club from July 10–17, 2026, in partnership with Platform. The exhibition transformed the waterfront ballroom into a gallery overlooking Star Island, timed to East Hampton Art & Design Days. Baker's technique involves applying pigment to the reverse of the canvas, pushing it through the fabric to create raised forms that blur painting, relief sculpture, and object. The works, rendered in charcoal, slate, brown, and raw linen, emphasize texture over color, with geometric forms emerging from the fabric. Baker, born in London and now based in Brooklyn, draws on design, interiors, and furniture making, recalling Arte Povera. The exhibition was part of a broader cultural program that included AKILA eyewear gifting suite and St-Germain and Maison Perrier's Regatta Spritz, underscoring Montauk Yacht Club's commitment to arts programming.
