Joe Fig's Miniature Studio Recreations Examined

From 2000 to 2019, artist, educator, and author Joe Fig crafted a collection of miniature 3D mixed-media pieces that meticulously represent the studios of renowned artists such as Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning. These works reveal the artists’ tools, materials, and environments, providing a glimpse into their creative processes. Fig highlights the significance of reflection in the studio, portraying artists in moments of both action and contemplation. To enrich his creations, he interviewed various artists about their studio routines. An alumnus of the School of Visual Arts in New York City, Fig has published "Inside the Painter's Studio" and "Inside the Artist's Studio" (Princeton Architectural Press). His work is part of collections at institutions like JPMorganChase and the Chazen Museum of Art. His latest series, "Contemplation," showcases museum visitors engaged with masterpieces and will appear in the July/August 2026 issue of Artists Magazine.
