Joaquín Tusquets de Cabirol's Rediscovered Photography at KBr Fundación Mapfre

KBr Fundación Mapfre in Barcelona presents the first exhibition dedicated to amateur photographer Joaquín Tusquets de Cabirol (d. 1979), whose archive of nearly 5,000 negatives and 1,000 prints was discovered in Mallorca in 2004 and attributed to him only in 2020. The show, titled 'Joaquín Tusquets de Cabirol. La forma elocuente', runs from June 18 to September 6, 2026. Tusquets, a chemical engineer and factory co-owner, was a member of the Agrupació Fotogràfica de Catalunya and used a Rolleiflex camera. His work captures everyday life in post-war Catalonia—cities, rural areas, and coastline—with a formalist approach influenced by Italian neorealism and modern French photography. The exhibition is organized into four thematic chapters: the coastline (especially the port of Barcelona), urban scenes (Barcelona, Paris, Venice), excursions with family or the photography group, and his most formally daring images of surfaces, objects, and architectural fragments. His legacy is managed by the Fundación Photographic Social Vision, which collaborated with Fundación Mapfre on the exhibition.
