Joan Miró retrospective at Musée Hyacinthe-Rigaud in Perpignan

The Musée d'art Hyacinthe-Rigaud in Perpignan is hosting an exhibition titled "Joan Miró. Majorque, l'atelier des rêves" from June 27 to December 31, 2026. Joan Miró (1893–1983) was a prolific Spanish painter associated with surrealism, known for his dreamlike works blending figuration and abstraction, dominated by blue. He created over 2,000 paintings, 5,000 drawings, 500 sculptures, and 400 ceramics. Born in Barcelona in 1893, he moved to Paris in 1920, befriending Picasso, André Masson, Max Jacob, Jacques Prévert, Aragon, and Paul Éluard. He signed the Surrealist Manifesto and was considered by André Breton as "the most surrealist of us all." His key works include "Le Carnaval d'Arlequin" (1924–1925), "Bleu II" (1961), and "Deux personnages fantastiques" (1976). The Museum of Modern Art held a retrospective in 1941. In 1975, the Joan Miró Foundation opened in Barcelona. The artist also created monumental works for the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, including "Le Labyrinthe."
