Jin Shan's 'All Begins with The Body' at Jiayuanhai Art Museum

exhibition · 2026-07-22

Jin Shan's solo exhibition 'All Begins with The Body…' at the Jiayuanhai Art Museum in Shanghai runs from May 1 to July 26, 2026. Curated by Hou Hanru, the show features site-specific works including 'Ouroboros' (2026), a 120-meter-long metal railing that winds through the central hall like a spine, and 'Indeterminate Matter' (2026), with some 50 clay figures scattered across the floor. 'Interior Desolation' (2026) presents eight scarlet glass-blown forms resembling abdominal organs. 'Limbo' (2026) involves buried sculpting tools that visitors can recast with plaster. The final work, 'Recursive Loop' (2026), uses soft silicone forms suspended from a mechanical apparatus that repeatedly drop and rise. The museum, designed by Tadao Ando, is located in Dayu Village on the outskirts of Shanghai. The exhibition also functions as a parent-child workshop, emphasizing bodily awareness.
