Jil Sander Expands Thonet Furniture Collaboration with New Bauhaus-Inspired Designs

Jil Sander, the renowned fashion designer, has enhanced her JS Thonet furniture range by introducing two new items: the 'S 411' lounge chair and the 'S 1070' table. The lounge chair's design is rooted in a 1932 creation from Thonet, showcasing an S-shaped tubular structure with sprung upholstery and a complementary footstool. Meanwhile, the 'S 1070' table draws inspiration from Glen Oliver Löw's 2004 design, which itself was influenced by Marcel Breuer's 'B 9' nesting tables from the 1920s. Available in 'Serious' and 'Nordic' editions, these pieces embody a minimalist aesthetic aligned with Bauhaus principles. Sander describes the chair as seemingly weightless, while Thonet's Norbert Ruf highlights the elegance of her designs. Their collaboration began in 2025, focusing on classic Bauhaus reinterpretations.
