Jiangshan Tonglumen Urban Terrace by gad

The Jiangshan Tonglumen Urban Terrace, designed by gad, is a 21,810 m² mixed-use development in the central area of Jiangshan, Zhejiang province. Completed in 2025, the project integrates a neighborhood center, commercial spaces, hotel, and urban plaza along a riverside public core. The site borders the ruins of the ancient city wall, where the Xu River and Luxi Canal converge, preserving century-old sycamore trees and the fabric of old streets. Despite this historical heritage, the land was long fragmented by modern roads and an artificial canal, creating a structural void in the urban fabric. The design challenge was to transform this void into a public catalyst for the city center, allowing street life vitality to flow back to the riverbank. The project team includes lead architect Wu Xuan, with architectural design by Wu Xuan, Wang Hangxu, Ma Yuqing, and Tang Junru.
