Jérémie Scheffler's "Nos Belles Courgettes" at La Manufacture des Abbesses

Denis's routine is upended when an administrative letter arrives demanding €2,895 in fees tied to his business, Nos Belles Courgettes — a company he believed he had closed weeks earlier. Disillusioned yet determined, he contacts the authorities to untangle the matter, setting off a series of back-and-forth exchanges and administrative demands that grow increasingly absurd. Unprepared for the legal mountain he must climb, Denis faces a single question: will he manage to close Nos Belles Courgettes for good, and at what cost? Written and directed by Jérémie Scheffler, the production is staged at La Manufacture des Abbesses. Press coverage has been favorable: Philippe Escalier, writing for Sensitif.org, observed that beneath its eccentricity the play engages something very concrete — the silent fear of the registered letter that haunts many French households. By choosing buffoonery over complaint, Escalier wrote, Nos Belles Courgettes turns an ordinary anxiety into a delightful evening and gives a young troupe the chance to prove itself before an audience won over from the opening.
