Jeongmin Lee's Ink Illustrations Weave Korean Coastal Folklore

Busan-based artist Jeongmin Lee creates intricate ink illustrations on traditional Korean mulberry paper (hanji) using bunchae pigments. Her work draws on regional folktales, mythology, and oral traditions, focusing on women's knowledge, labor, and resilience. Lee's ongoing series "Daughters of the Sea" was recently exhibited at the SĀBRS Festival in Riga. She is also working on a graphic novel centered on Busan's mythology, expected to be completed next year. Lee's practice involves a slow, layered process that allows the paper and pigments to create subtle textures. She aims to expand her project into a participatory experience that connects similar narratives globally.
