Jellyfish Museum: Florida's First Museum Dedicated to Jellyfish Opens in Pompano Beach

The Jellyfish Museum, the first museum in the United States exclusively dedicated to jellyfish, has opened in Pompano Beach, Florida. Inaugurated in spring, the museum features approximately 20 different species housed in 21 tanks, designed to be both educational and visually striking. Visitors are treated to an immersive experience with illuminated tanks and wall projections, allowing close observation of the slow-moving creatures and their role in marine ecosystems. Among the species on display are moon jellies, spotted jellies, and upside-down jellyfish, the latter also found in Florida's mangrove areas. The museum was founded by Alex and Yana Yanovsky, a couple who previously developed marine life facilities in Ukraine, including a jellyfish museum in Kyiv. After leaving Ukraine following the Russian invasion in 2022, they brought their expertise to the United States, choosing Florida as their new home. The museum is housed in a former bank building and received approximately $100,000 in urban revitalization funding from the city of Pompano Beach.
