Jeannette Montgomery Barron's "Table Tops" and "Mirrors" at Neverstill Wines

A new exhibition at Neverstill Wines in Hudson, New York, pairs the photographer's intimate series with the tasting room's atmosphere. Known for portraits of Mapplethorpe, Basquiat, Cindy Sherman, and Willem Dafoe, Montgomery Barron now shows "Table Tops"—iPhone shots of found meals, often from Italy—and "Mirrors," a decades-long project begun in 1991 after a friend's death from AIDS. The mirrors, two in number, are photographed repeatedly in color, serving as self-portraits. Curated by Victoria Hood of Agency Esta and Theo Coulombe of Standard Space, the show was installed in July and runs through December 31. The photographer describes the installation process as creative and enjoyable, noting that works were selected from her Connecticut studio and resonated immediately with the space.
