Jean-Marie Appriou's 'Canto Infinito' Opens at Palazzo Strozzi's Project Space

Palazzo Strozzi in Florence presents 'Canto Infinito', the third exhibition in its Project Space series, featuring French artist Jean-Marie Appriou (b. 1986, Brest). Curated by Arturo Galansino, the show runs until August 23, 2026. Appriou's monumental five-ton bronze and steel gate greets visitors, referencing Rodin, Florentine doors, and literary sources including Lautréamont's 'Les Chants de Maldoror', Dante's 'Divine Comedy', and works by William Blake, John Milton, and Mary Shelley. The installation includes rotating cylinders, a Möbius strip stove-sculpture 'The Key', and pieces 'Apophis' and 'Mandjet', all created in 2026. Appriou, trained by master founder Adalberto Mecarelli and represented by Massimo De Carlo, cites Sterling Ruby as an influence. The Project Space, launched in May 2025 with Giulia Cenci and continued in January 2026 with Andro Eradze, aims to showcase emerging artists in dialogue with historical masters, while upstairs Palazzo Strozzi hosts a Mark Rothko exhibition.
