Jean-Baptiste Fastrez Reworks an Inflatable Boat and a Wall Fitting Into Mirrors for Moustache

architecture-design · 2026-10-20

Jean-Baptiste Fastrez, a French designer, has introduced two new mirror designs for Moustache: Zodiac and Sphera. The Zodiac mirror, resembling an inflatable boat, is crafted from high-gloss ceramic and comes in three sizes, including a small green Bumper and a medium black variant. Meanwhile, Sphera showcases large spherical clamps made of chrome hardware that support flat mirror sheets, with models named Crystal Palace and Orbit. Fastrez refers to Zodiac as a 'fake ready-made,' highlighting the storytelling potential of merging disparate items. The inspiration for Sphera stems from Carlo Mollino's residence in Turin. Both mirrors incorporate glass structurally, with Zodiac's ceramic frame enhancing the reflection of the tube. Fastrez believes ornamentation is vital to functionality in these pieces. This interview was featured in designboom's SPECTATOR AND SPECTACLE chapter.
