Jaume Plensa Opens Dual GRAY Gallery Exhibitions in Chicago and New York

Two solo exhibitions by Jaume Plensa opened within a week of each other at GRAY galleries in the United States. Beyond Silence, at GRAY Chicago, is the larger show, featuring massive carved-wood reliefs, vertical cast iron and granite sculptures, and intimate bronze works. Its centerpieces are two monumental wood-and-steel sculptures, Beyond Silence (Julia) and Beyond Silence (Maria), each 28 feet long, with carved contemplative faces visible through vertical wood slats. The Clouds series comprises three 7-foot-tall pieces, each an elongated cast iron bust on smooth granite, juxtaposing rough industrial iron with polished stone. The Twilight series consists of bronze sculptures about 20 inches tall, offering an intimate, face-to-face viewing experience. Remote, Serene, Ethereal at GRAY New York includes fewer works but features a site-specific wall drawing Plensa created on site, alongside a trio of stretched painted bronze portraits. The Chicago exhibition runs September 17–December 19, 2026, at 2044 W Carroll Ave, Chicago, Illinois 60612. The New York exhibition runs September 23–December 19, 2026, at 1018 Madison Ave Fl 2, New York, New York 10075. Both shows examine scale and material while representing the figure, a recurring concern in Plensa's practice.
