Jasper Reinsch on Irony, History, and Berlin's Fragmented Subcultures

Designer Jasper Reinsch, a graduate of Weissensee, presented his collection 'As Good As Worn' at ZK/U in Berlin as part of seefashion26. The collection critiques fashion's obsession with newness by artificially aging new garments to create an ironic sense of history. Reinsch grew up surrounded by flea markets and antiques, influencing his approach to recontextualizing old narratives. He uses familiar fabrics and colors, then applies weathering treatments to make clothing look worn. Berlin's fragmented subcultures mirror his design philosophy, which navigates between fine art and practical design. Reinsch emphasizes collective responsibility among young designers to address environmental and ethical issues in fashion. He sees fashion design as operating in the space between art and design, and his show at ZK/U confirmed that his garments can hold their own in overpowering environments. He hopes viewers appreciate the irony in his work. Future plans include experimenting with accessories.
