Japanmade Vol.1 at 3 Days of Design 2026 Explores Japanese Craft Through Danish Eyes

During 3 Days of Design 2026 in Copenhagen (10-12 June), Wallpaper* Japan editor Jens H Jensen and OEO Studio present 'Japanmade Vol.1', an exhibition that reexamines Japanese design beyond the 'Japandi' trend. The show features five brands manufacturing exclusively in Japan: MAS (a Karimoku Furniture sub-brand) with hinoki wood furniture; 300-year-old paper workshop Naowashi by Gen Taniguchi; Sekisaka, a 300-year-old manufacturer from Sabae City, presenting contemporary tableware in resin and ABS plastic inspired by Urushi lacquerware; artisanal soybean candlemakers Sheep from Nagoya City; and New Light Pottery from Nara, offering lamps in washi, glass, ceramics, and lacquer-finished brass. The exhibition occupies three rooms near Pakhus 11, with staging made from cardboard pallets for low-carbon impact. Jensen, who has lived in Japan for over 20 years, emphasizes the close designer-manufacturer relationship as key to quality. OEO Studio co-founder Thomas Lykke notes the bond between Japanese and Scandinavian design goes deeper than shared aesthetics. The 'Vol.1' title hints at a potential series.
