James Thurstan Waterworth on Thurstan's Hospitality and Residential Projects

James Thurstan Waterworth, the founder of the London interior design firm Thurstan, believes that effective design should honor a building's architectural heritage and narrative. Established in 2018 at Charterhouse Square, Thurstan has undertaken custom hospitality projects and private homes worldwide. Waterworth, who previously served as the European Design Director for Soho House, considers the Miami project crucial to his career. He is currently involved in master-planning a country house in Wiltshire, restoring an 18th-century farmhouse, and repurposing barns for various uses. The studio has recently finished The Zetter Bloomsbury hotel, showcasing a range of artifacts and textiles, with a new Zetter location in Amsterdam expected to launch by the end of the year. Waterworth values timeless design, favoring marble, townhouses, and light, with occasional darker elements. He prioritizes family time and avoids social media distractions.
