Jamel Shabazz: First Major German Exhibition at Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation

In Eschborn, Germany, the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation presents 'Jamel Shabazz. New York Vibes', marking the first major exhibition in the country focused on American photographer Jamel Shabazz. Hailing from Brooklyn, Shabazz has been capturing the essence of Black communities in New York since the 1980s, highlighting issues such as racism and the hip-hop scene. The exhibition features an interview with Shabazz conducted by Felix von Böhm, which will be published on 04.09.2026. Shabazz began his photography journey at 17 while serving in the US Army in Germany and later chronicled street life in Brooklyn. He also spent 20 years as a corrections officer, producing notable documentary series. Recent auction highlights include Kandinsky's 'Villa Seeburg am Staffelsee' (1911) sold for €4.4 million, Hodler's 'Sonnenuntergang am Genfersee von Caux aus' (1917) fetching CHF 6 million, and Marcks's 'Sich niedertuende Kuh' (1949) at €22,000.
