JAD in Sèvres Presents 21 Vase Variations by 10 Cnap Laureates

exhibition · 2026-10-07

From October 16, 2026 to February 28, 2027, the JAD - Jardin des métiers d'art et du design in Sèvres hosts an exhibition of twenty-one variations on the vase, commissioned by the Cnap from ten young laureates. The show is free to enter and includes the pieces alongside drawings and essays. The vase, an object roughly twenty thousand years old, is reinterpreted here as a sink siphon, a leg prosthesis, a miniature volcanic crater, and a goldsmith's case for an endangered seed. Jacques Averna, who worked at Jacob Delafon, whose ceramics factory closed in 2021 with production moved to Morocco, created a sanitary vase that preserves the factory's silhouette, even integrating an overflow hole. Heim+Viladrich visited a prosthesis manufacturer and named their piece after the factory and the time spent producing it. Île/Mer/Froid joined a potter in La Borne whose kiln requires several days and nights of collective watching. There were 169 applications, ten laureates, and sixteen creators in total: almost no one came alone, each seeking out a workshop still standing. The JAD, housed in the former École nationale de céramique in Sèvres, displays the drawings and tests next to the works. The venue is located at 6 Grande Rue, 92310 Sèvres, near M° Pont de Sèvres (line 9), open Wednesday to Sunday from 2pm to 7pm, with free admission.
