The '1948' style references the eyewear Kubrick wore while working as a photographer for Look magazine in New York in the late 1940s, featuring rounded lenses and thick rims in four colorways. The '1980' style is a sleeker aviator design inspired by the sunglasses Kubrick wore on the sets of The Shining and Full Metal Jacket, with titanium rims and four color options. Both styles are limited editions and are available on the brand's website. Jacques Marie Mage has previously collaborated with cultural figures such as Patti Smith and Marianne Faithfull, and has drawn inspiration from Kubrick's films, including 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Shining. The brand describes the new frames as a tribute to Kubrick's legacy as 'an auteur for the ages.' The reissue follows a previous collection released earlier this year that included the 'Torrance' and 'Twins' sunglasses inspired by The Shining. Jacques Marie Mage is known for its meticulous production, with each pair handmade in Japan or Italy from high-quality cellulose acetate, and often limited to fewer than 500 pieces per style.
