Jacob Lewis on Collecting, Pace Prints' Brand X Acquisition and Gamaliel Rodríguez Monoprints

artist · 2026-09-21

Jacob Lewis, who has served as president and CEO of Pace Prints for 25 years, began his journey as an intern. Over the years, he has curated a varied collection focused on printmaking, showcasing artists such as Robin F. Williams, Leonardo Drew, Peter Saul, and Tomokazu Matsuyama. In 2007, he purchased his first artwork, Lisa Yuskavage's Weeds, while launching Pace Prints Chelsea. His most recent addition is a painting by Gamaliel Rodríguez, whose monoprints will be displayed in New York from September until 10 October. This autumn, Pace Prints plans to open a new studio and gallery in Los Angeles and has acquired Brand X Editions. A graduate in printmaking from West Virginia University, Lewis sometimes encourages artists to collaborate on his collection. He expresses regret over not acquiring Dana Schutz's Buddy (2018) and holds admiration for Roy Lichtenstein's I...I'm Sorry! (1965-66). He eagerly anticipates the Brancusi: The Artist and His Studio exhibition at MoMA from 25 October to 27 February 2027 and often visits Juban in Chelsea.
