JAAS Transforms 1920s Textile Factory into Sallarès Deu Civic Campus in Sabadell

The architecture firm JAAS, led by Josep M. Julià, Albert Clèries, Jordi Gorgues, and Manuel Julià, has completed the Sallarès Deu civic campus in Sabadell, near Barcelona. The project converts the former Sallarès Deu textile factory, originally designed in 1920 by architect Lluís Muncunill, into a new civic hub. Commissioned by the Sabadell City Council, the transformation reinterprets the city's industrial heritage through a contemporary approach that combines historical continuity, environmental responsibility, and new civic uses. The project area spans 82,942 m² and was completed in 2025. The design team includes Mor Arquitectura Tècnica SLP for technical architecture, Joan A. Gonzàlez Gou for environmental sustainability engineering, and Jordi Oliveras Reder for structural engineering. Photographs were taken by Adrià Goula. The project falls under the categories of educational architecture, reconversion, and sustainability. Curated by Valentina Díaz, the project was submitted by the architecture team. This transformation preserves the legacy of Lluís Muncunill while adapting the industrial space for contemporary civic functions, marking a significant contribution to Sabadell's architectural landscape.
