Iván Larrea Bellod Creates World's First Stone Organ Instrument

Spanish artist Iván Larrea Bellod has developed the world's first musical organ made from natural rocks. The instrument, which functions as a wind-powered organ, uses hollowed stones that each produce specific musical notes, allowing performance of classical and contemporary compositions as well as reproduction of human vocal ranges. Larrea began this project in 2024, building on work that started with his first stone musical tube created in 1994. The current installation consists of 54 stone tubes forming a 'cave profundis' register. The artist plans to expand the work into a 'symphonic mountain' with additional registers and incorporate artificial intelligence for interactive capabilities. The innovative instrument represents a fusion of sculpture and music using natural materials with precision engineering.
