Iván Argote's mobile sculpture DIGNIDAD debuts in Chicago
Paris-based artist Iván Argote launches DIGNIDAD, a mobile sculpture on a flatbed truck, in Chicago on June 12. Organized by the Floating Museum as part of its Floating Monuments series, the work begins in Humboldt Park, home to the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture and the annual Fiestas Patronales Puertorriqueñas. Argote, known for his giant pigeon sculpture Dinosaur on the High Line, developed the project over two years with curator Carla Acevedo-Yates and community input. DIGNIDAD will appear at the Puerto Rican Day Parade on June 14 and travel to Pilsen, Little Village, and possibly a detention facility in Bridgeview. After Chicago, it heads to Dallas, Minneapolis, and potentially the East Coast.
