Italy Celebrates François Morellet Centenary with Nationwide Exhibition Network
A diffuse exhibition project titled "∞ François Morellet ∞ Centenario in Italia 1926-2026" will mark the centenary of the French artist's birth across Italy from May 2026. Coordinated by A arte Invernizzi and curated by Paolo Bolpagni and Alessandro Gallicchio in collaboration with the Estate Morellet, the initiative involves multiple institutions including A arte Invernizzi in Milan, the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, Fondazione Biscozzi | Rimbaud in Lecce, Fondazione Ragghianti in Lucca, MACAMorterone, Bocconi University in Milan, Villa Pisani Bonetti in Bagnolo di Lonigo, and Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan. The program opens on May 21, 2026, with the exhibition "François Morellet | Gianni Colombo" curated by Luca Massimo Barbero at A arte Invernizzi, running through July 17, 2026. Morellet first exhibited in Italy in 1960 at Galleria Azimut at the invitation of Piero Manzoni. His last exhibition, designed before his death, opened in 2016 at A arte Invernizzi. The project runs parallel to French celebrations organized by the Centre Pompidou. A catalog edited by Metilene will be published, featuring critical essays and photographic documentation.
