Italian curator Patrizia Nitti dies at 82

Patrizia Nitti, an Italian curator renowned for her role in bringing Renaissance art to the Musée du Luxembourg in Paris, passed away at the age of 82 on July 10, 2026, in Arezzo. She was born in Paris during her family's exile due to anti-fascist sentiments and was the granddaughter of Francesco Saverio Nitti, who served as Italy's Prime Minister from 1919 to 1920. In 1986, she was appointed to promote Pompeii and began organizing Renaissance exhibitions at the Musée du Luxembourg in 1999, including notable shows like "Raphael. Grace and Beauty" (2001) and "Botticelli. From Lorenzo the Magnificent to Savonarola" (2003). Her position ended in 2008 due to a financial dispute with SVO, and in 2009, she took on the role of artistic director at the Musée Maillol while also leading the Association Francesco Saverio Nitti in Melfi for 25 years.
