INC Designs Kimpton Era Hotel in New York with Ocean Liner-Inspired Interiors

architecture-design · 2026-10-03

The interiors of the Kimpton Era hotel, a 529-key establishment situated in a 33-storey tower on West 48th Street close to Rockefeller Center, have been finalized by INC, an architecture firm based in New York. The design captures the essence of New York City's contrasting nature and the elegance of luxury ocean liners. Guest accommodations resemble ship cabins, featuring built-in furniture, neutral color schemes, rich jewel-toned fabrics, and bathrooms designed in a wet-room style. A striking triple-height atrium showcases a blackened steel-and-glass staircase along with an organic mobile. Dining options include five venues: a Latin American restaurant, a brasserie on the second floor, a lobby café on the third, and a rooftop bar. Adam Rolston, a partner at INC, likened the rooms to "a stateroom on an ocean liner." This year marks the studio's 20th anniversary. Photography by Read McKendree.
