Iker García Barrenetxea Plans Kresala Exhibition at San Sebastián Aquarium

Iker García Barrenetxea (born 1979, San Sebastián) is preparing Kresala, an exhibition at the San Sebastián Aquarium that will place his paintings of the Atlantic coast alongside living marine environments. The artist, who studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Bilbao and spent 17 years in London, now works from La Droguería studio in Loiola. His practice spans poetic figurative realism, digital projects like Digital Souls, ink series such as Western Lifestyle Everyday Recipe, and spatial works including The Denmark Project. Influences include Yan Pei-Ming, Edward Hopper, Sebas Velasco, Vicente Ameztoy, Gerhard Richter, and David Hockney. His early painting Tormented (El Atormentado), created in a Brick Lane flat, led to the 2005 multidisciplinary collaboration Inside Out with composer Miguel Marín. García Barrenetxea has exhibited across Europe, participated in major art fairs, and is represented by a Madrid auction house.
