Ikea has launched its latest PS collection, focusing on playful and interactive furniture design. The PS initiative, which began in the 1990s, aims to make Scandinavian design accessible and affordable. The new collection, themed 'Playful Functionality', includes pieces such as a rocking bench, an inflatable armchair, wall masks, and adjustable furniture. Maria O'Brian, creative leader at Ikea, emphasizes that simplicity can reveal design in its purest form through interaction and surprise. Designer Mikael Axelsson, creator of the inflatable chair, critiques design that is treated as precious and untouchable, aiming instead to engage curiosity and bring joy. The collection continues Ikea's three-decade exploration of affordable home design, following previous themes like 'The Democratic Home' and 'Inspired by History, Designed for Today'.
