IKEA Launches Second-Hand Furniture Marketplace in UK and Ireland
IKEA has introduced a new online platform for second-hand furniture sales in the UK and Ireland, excluding mattresses, appliances, and food items. Sellers can easily list their products by scanning them, while the platform offers details such as pricing, photos, dimensions, assembly guidance, and care tips. They have the option to receive direct payments or an IKEA voucher that includes an additional 15% credit. This marketplace, which was piloted in Madrid and Oslo in 2024, seeks to minimize waste and provide affordable options during the ongoing cost of living crisis, with prices averaging 60% less than new items. Greg Lucas, the sustainability manager for IKEA UK and Ireland, highlighted that 87% of UK adults are interested in purchasing second-hand products. The Buy Back and Resell initiative, launched in 2021, further enhances sustainability efforts.
