Iittala and Hydro build walk-in Aalto vase pavilion at 3daysofdesign

Iittala and Hydro unveiled the Aalto 90 Pavilion, a 7-meter-tall walk-in version of the iconic Aalto vase, at Copenhagen's 3daysofdesign festival from June 10 to 12. Designed by Tableau CPH and commissioned by Iittala, the pavilion is made from Hydro REDUXA low-carbon aluminum, produced with 100% renewable energy and a carbon footprint under 4.0 CO2 per kg aluminum. The structure is modular and can be reassembled in other cities. Inside, a limited anniversary set of Aalto City Vases in six colors (named after Helsinki, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, New York, and Berlin) was displayed. The pavilion's seamless aluminum surface, lit from below, creates an immersive interior that inverts the experience of the original glass vase. A skylight and soundscape enhance the atmosphere. The pavilion marks the 90th anniversary of the vase, originally designed by Alvar Aalto and Aino Aalto in 1936.
