Ignorance & Freedom: Short Film and Original Score Explore Fear, Autonomy and Queer Intimacy

The short film Ignorance & Freedom, choreographed and performed by Natasha Patterson and Sabine Van Rensburgs, takes place in a bar, showcasing an intimate interaction between two female-presenting figures. Movement director Brin Schoellkopf crafted this sensual duet, where non-verbal cues like gaze and closeness take precedence over spoken words. Ignorance is depicted in monochrome and rigid forms, while Freedom bursts with color and fluidity, drawing from surrealist and avant-garde influences. The project embraces a queer/FLINTA+ identity, evident in its casting and choreography. The original five-minute score, created by Sina Bresching and Silah Goebel, features a conversation between cello and distorted electric guitar. Directed by Franziska Marie Hildebrand and shot by Tuana Sandikci, the film prioritizes recognition over clarity, advocating for change through fresh viewpoints.
