Idris Elba says James Bond shouldn't be 'woke'

British actor Idris Elba has stated that James Bond should not become 'woke', arguing that some global audiences would not accept a black male playing 007. In an interview with GQ, Elba, best known for The Wire and Luther, said Bond 'was written how he was written for a reason' and that the character is meant to be escapism. He acknowledged being flattered by years of rumors linking him to the role but noted that 'some markets just don't go for that.' Elba currently stars in Masters of the Universe as Man-at-Arms. The search for the next Bond officially began last month, with auditions reportedly underway. The next film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Steven Knight. Casting director Nina Gold is leading the search. Rumored candidates include Callum Turner, Henry Cavill, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
