idearch studio rehabilita Son Martorell, un 'lloc' de Menorca de 1886, con clima, paisaje y materiales autóctonos

Led by Syra Abella Bule and Joaquín Mosquera Casares, Idearch studio has successfully restored Son Martorell, a historic Menorcan estate dating back to 1886 that had fallen into severe disrepair. This project encompasses the main residence, boyera, and expansive natural surroundings, emphasizing a concept referred to as 'useful ruin' to retain significant spatial and material features. Interior marés was uncovered through selective wall cleaning, supplemented with mortars or tiles as needed. The design considers the Tramontana winds, featuring south-facing floor-to-ceiling windows that showcase the landscape, while the kitchen is shielded on the north side. A new staircase is supported by the old stone wall, and a double-height entrance facilitates movement. The landscape intervention focused on removing invasive species while maintaining the area.
