other · 2026-10-05

So, on Monday, the International Criminal Court announced that they’ve issued arrest warrants for four senior Taliban leaders. These officials are being charged with crimes against humanity due to their persecution of women, girls, and LGBTQ people in Afghanistan since the Taliban took over again in 2021. The warrants were actually issued back in July and September of last year and include names like Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban’s supreme leader, and Abdul Hakim Haqqani, who leads Afghanistan’s Supreme Court. They’re also after Education Minister Habibullah Agha and Higher Education Minister Neda Mohammad Nadim. Even though the warrants for Akhundzada and Haqqani were revealed last year, they were kept under wraps. Under the Taliban, women have faced bans from jobs, many public spaces, and education beyond primary school.
